Privacy Policy — Privacy Extension for WhatsApp Privacy

Last updated: May 13, 2026

Privacy Extension for WhatsApp Privacy (we, us, or our) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how the Privacy Extension for WhatsApp Privacy Chrome extension (the Extension) collects, uses, stores, shares, and otherwise processes information when you use it.

This policy is written to meet transparency expectations for the Chrome Web Store, including disclosure of all categories of user data we collect, how we use them, where they are stored, how long we keep them, and which parties may receive them (including service providers and user-directed destinations).

1. Scope

This policy applies to the Extension distributed through the Chrome Web Store and any in-product notices that reference this policy. It does not govern third-party websites or services (including WhatsApp or Meta) that you may access separately.

2. Information we collect

We collect information only where needed to provide the Extension’s features, keep it compatible with WhatsApp Web, operate optional license/entitlement features, and improve stability. Categories include:

2.1 Data derived from WhatsApp Web on your device

  • WhatsApp phone number (digits)
Collection: Read from WhatsApp Web local data in the browser when you use WhatsApp Web, then stored in the Extension’s local storage.
Purpose: Associate settings and optional license/entitlement checks with your account context; support and troubleshooting when you contact us.
    Personal data: Yes.

2.2 Device, browser, and Extension context

  • Browser language (e.g., UI locale)
Collection: From browser / Extension configuration.
    Purpose: Localize the Extension UI.
May be sent in telemetry: Yes (see sections 2.3–2.4).
  • Browser and platform details (e.g., user agent string, browser type, OS platform)
    Collection: From the browser environment.
Purpose: Diagnose compatibility issues (including after WhatsApp Web updates).
May be sent in telemetry: Yes (see sections 2.3–2.4).
  • Extension version
Collection: From the Extension manifest at runtime.
    Purpose: Support and compatibility diagnostics.
May be sent in telemetry: Yes (see sections 2.3–2.4).
  • Install timestamp
Collection: Stored locally when the Extension is installed or first initialized.
Purpose: Understand rollout patterns and correlate issues with releases.
May be sent in telemetry: Yes (see sections 2.3–2.4).
  • Randomly assigned Extension instance identifier (UUID)
    Collection: Generated and stored locally.
Purpose: Correlate diagnostic logs when you contact support (without requiring you to send screenshots for every issue).
May be sent in telemetry: Yes (see sections 2.3–2.4).

2.3 Product usage and diagnostics (telemetry)

  • Event logs (e.g., feature usage counters, flow outcomes, error conditions)
Collection: Automatically when specific actions occur in the Extension.
Purpose: Improve stability, measure feature usage, and detect incompatibilities with WhatsApp Web updates.
Personal data: May include identifiers listed above when available (e.g., UUID, phone number, country label derived from number).

2.4 API traffic diagnostics (subset of telemetry)

When the Extension calls our backend APIs for entitlement or license binding, we may record additional diagnostic fields for those requests, such as:

  • Request URL, HTTP method, and timestamps
  • Request payload and response payload as processed by the Extension for that API call
  • Error names/messages when a request fails

Purpose: Operate and debug licensing/entitlement flows; not used for third-party advertising.

2.5 Optional scheduling / localization context

Some features (for example, scheduling-related behavior) may rely on time and locale context available on your device (including values inferred locally for display). Unless also included in telemetry fields described above, such context is processed locally to operate the feature.

2.6 User-entered license data

  • License or activation code (active_code)
Collection: When you choose to bind a license in the UI.
Purpose: Validate and bind a license to your WhatsApp number on our servers.
Personal data: Yes (paired with your WhatsApp number for binding).

2.7 User-configured Webhooks (user-directed sharing)

If you enable Webhooks, you may configure one or more HTTP(S) endpoints that you control. When triggered, the Extension may send a payload you configure (which can include message-related data you selected) to those endpoints.

Important: Those endpoints are not operated by us. Data sent there is shared with the third party (or your own server) that operates each URL, under your configuration.

3. How we use information

We use the information above to:

  1. Provide core Extension functionality on web.whatsapp.com.
  2. Store your preferences locally (chrome.storage.local / chrome.storage.sync as applicable).
  3. Operate optional entitlement and license binding through our watools.ai APIs.
  4. Send telemetry and diagnostics to Alibaba Cloud Log Service for the purposes described in this policy.
  5. Open an uninstall feedback URL on watools.ai when you remove the Extension (see section 5.2).
  6. Call wawebsender.com for a new-user guide / permission check request when the Extension needs that status (minimal parameters such as extension type).
  7. Deliver Webhook traffic to URLs you supply.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use telemetry for third-party advertising.

4. Permissions and network access

4.1 Chrome permissions

PermissionWhy it is needed
storageSave preferences, identifiers, and settings locally.
scriptingInject or adjust scripts/UI in permitted pages when needed for features.
alarmsSchedule time-based tasks used by the Extension.

4.2 Host access

  • WhatsApp Web (*.whatsapp.com) — Required for the Extension to function on WhatsApp Web.
  • https://watools.ai/* and https://*.watools.ai/* (optional) — Used only if you grant optional host permission, for entitlement, binding, related web flows, and uninstall redirect.
  • Telemetry endpoint — The Extension sends logs to Alibaba Cloud Log Service at us-west-1.log.aliyuncs.com (HTTPS).
  • https://wawebsender.com — Used for the new-user guide / permission check API (/api/extension/...).
  • User Webhooks — Any HTTPS URL you configure.

5. How we share information (recipients)

We disclose user data only as described in this policy or when required by law.

5.1 Alibaba Cloud (log storage and processing)

Recipient: Alibaba Cloud (Alibaba Cloud Log Service / related cloud services used under our account).

Region example: Log ingestion for this Extension is configured for us-west-1 (United States).

Role: Service provider / processor that stores and processes telemetry and diagnostic logs on our behalf.

Data may include: Event type, timestamps, UUID, install time, language, browser type, user agent, platform, Extension version, WhatsApp phone number and derived country label (when available), and API diagnostic fields described in section 2.4.

Retention: We configure automatic deletion of log data on a seven (7) day rolling basis (subject to our cloud configuration).

Not for sale: We do not permit Alibaba Cloud to use this data for its own advertising.

5.2 Our websites and APIs (watools.ai)

Recipient: Our services hosted under watools.ai (and dev.watools.ai for development/testing builds if applicable).

Role: Controller / operator of backend services.

Examples of processing:

  • Entitlement API — Receives your WhatsApp number to return license/entitlement status.
  • License bind API — Receives your WhatsApp number and activation code to bind a license.
  • Uninstall URL — When you uninstall the Extension, Chrome may open a URL such as https://watools.ai/waplus-privacy-uninstall?... which can include query parameters such as WhatsApp number, install time, country name/label, UUID, and Extension version, so we can understand uninstall patterns and improve support.

5.3 wawebsender.com API

Recipient: wawebsender.com (API host).

Role: Third-party API used for new-user guide / permission check with limited parameters (for example, extension type).

Transport: HTTPS.

5.4 Webhook endpoints you configure

Recipient: The operator of each URL you enter (which may be you or a third-party vendor).

Role: User-directed transfer — not controlled by us beyond sending what you configured.

5.5 Legal, safety, and business transfers

We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect rights, safety, or security.

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, we will provide notice and continue to protect personal information consistent with this policy or notify you of changes.

6. International transfers

Because we use cloud providers and domains that may process data in regions outside your country of residence (for example, log storage in United States regions on Alibaba Cloud), your information may be transferred across borders for the purposes in this policy. We rely on appropriate safeguards as required by applicable law (such as contractual protections with processors).

7. Retention

CategoryRetention (summary)
Local Extension preferences and cached identifiersUntil you clear site/extension data or uninstall.
Telemetry in Alibaba Cloud logsApproximately 7 days, then automatic deletion per our configuration.
Server-side entitlement / license records (watools.ai)Retained as long as necessary to provide and audit the license or subscription you use. We delete or anonymize when no longer needed for that purpose, unless a longer period is required by law.
Uninstall URL parameters received by watools.aiProcessed according to our server configuration for product improvement and support; contact us for deletion requests.

If you need a specific retention schedule for server-side rows, email us — we will confirm what applies to your account.

8. Security

  • Local settings are stored using Chrome’s extension storage APIs on your device.
  • Remote calls use HTTPS/TLS where applicable.
  • Access to cloud logs and servers is limited to authorized personnel under access controls.
  • We conduct reasonable security practices for our stage of business; no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

9. Your choices and rights

  • Local data: You can clear Extension data in Chrome or uninstall the Extension.
  • Optional watools.ai access: You can decline optional permissions that gate network access to watools.ai where the Extension allows it; some features may not function without them.
  • Webhooks: Remove or disable Webhooks in settings to stop sending data to those URLs.
  • Deletion / requests: Email [email protected] to request deletion or export of server-side personal data tied to your identifiers (for example, WhatsApp number or UUID), subject to verification and legal exceptions.

10. Children’s privacy

The Extension is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect product or legal changes. We will revise the “Last updated” date and post the new policy at the same URL you use in the Chrome Web Store listing.
