This Privacy Policy explains how WA Download, a WATools.ai product (we, us, or our), handles information when you use the WA Download Chrome extension (the Extension) and related pages on watools.ai.
It applies to the Chrome Web Store item identified as eelhmnjkbjmlcglpiaegojkoolckdgaj and to any WA Download version or listing that links to this policy. WA Download is an independent product and is not affiliated with, authorized by, endorsed by, or sponsored by WhatsApp LLC or Meta Platforms, Inc.
1. Scope and who is responsible
WATools.ai is responsible for the data practices described in this policy. This policy covers the Extension, its licensing and checkout flows, its uninstall feedback page, and WA Download support interactions. It does not govern WhatsApp, Chrome, payment providers, or other websites you visit, which have their own privacy practices.
2. Data flow at a glance

3. WhatsApp data processed locally
To provide its single purpose - exporting or downloading user-selected WhatsApp information - WA Download can read data that is already available in your signed-in WhatsApp Web session. Depending on the feature you choose, this can include:
Contact and account details, including phone numbers, public display names, saved names, country information, labels, business-account indicators, and profile images where available.
Group details, including group names, participants, administrators, past participants, pending requests, and membership metadata.
Chat information, including conversation identifiers, participant names and numbers, message text, timestamps, message types, and message identifiers.
Attachments and media you select, including images, audio, video, and documents.
WhatsApp Status information you choose to download, including publisher details, text, images, video, timestamps, and media metadata.
Local export handling
The Extension converts this data into the format you request, such as CSV, XLSX, VCF, HTML, JSON, ZIP, or individual media files. The conversion occurs on your device and the resulting files are saved through your browser. Those files remain wherever you save them until you delete or move them.
Local preferences and cached selections
WA Download uses chrome.storage.local, and in limited cases chrome.storage.sync, to remember settings and operational state. This can include language, export format, selected chat/group identifiers, date range, attachment choices, selected groups or labels, feature-guide state, plan status, installation ID/time, Extension version, country code, and recent task status. Chrome may sync items saved with chrome.storage.sync according to your Chrome Sync settings.
4. Information transmitted to us
4.1 Account, license, and entitlement data
Your WhatsApp account number, used to check plan status and associate an entitlement.
An activation code if you enter one, plus installation/source identifiers used to bind or retrieve it.
Plan, subscription, transaction, entitlement, and cancellation status needed to provide paid features.
4.2 Product usage and diagnostic telemetry
The Extension automatically records feature and reliability events. Fields can include event type and time, installation time, random installation UUID, Extension version, WhatsApp account number and country derived from it, browser/platform/language information, user plan type, HTTP endpoint/status for failed API calls, feature settings, export format, aggregate contact/group/message/media counts, task duration, result state, and sanitized error codes or messages.
For the current chat-backup flow, telemetry can also include the selected contact chat identifiers, selected group chat identifiers, selected date range, and attachment-type selections. We do not intentionally include message bodies or downloaded file contents in telemetry.
4.3 Region and remote configuration requests
The Extension requests product configuration from WATools.ai product-family infrastructure, including cdn2.waplus.io and waplus.io. Those services receive ordinary request metadata such as IP address and user agent. The Extension also requests country information from ip-api.com; that provider necessarily receives the public IP address used for the request. The returned country code/name can be stored locally and included in uninstall or diagnostic context.
4.4 Checkout and payment data
If you purchase a plan, we process the email address you enter, your WhatsApp number, the selected plan and payment method, amount/currency, and transaction, checkout, customer, subscription, and payment-status identifiers. Payment card or local-payment credentials are collected directly by the payment provider on its hosted page; we do not receive or store full card numbers.
4.5 Uninstall feedback and support
When Chrome opens the WA Download uninstall page, its URL can contain installation time, installation UUID, Extension version, WhatsApp account number, and country code. The page also records browser/platform/language context. If you submit feedback, we additionally collect the selected reasons and any text you enter. If you contact support, we process the contact details and information you choose to provide.
5. How we use information
Provide contact, group, label, chat, attachment, and Status export/download features requested by you.
Remember settings, preserve task state, and create files on your device.
Verify free or paid entitlement, bind activation codes, process checkout, deliver paid features, and manage subscriptions.
Maintain compatibility with WhatsApp Web and diagnose failed exports, downloads, licensing, or checkout requests.
Measure aggregate feature reliability and improve WA Download's user-facing functionality.
Load product configuration, provide support/community links that you choose to open, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
Understand uninstall reasons and respond to support or privacy requests.
6. Chrome permissions and website access

8. Storage locations and retention
Category
Storage and retention
Exported contacts, chats, media, and Status files
Stored only at the download location you choose. They remain until you delete them.
Extension settings, cached selections, identifiers, and task state
Stored in Chrome Extension local/sync storage. Local Extension data is normally removed when you uninstall or clear Extension data; synced settings are controlled by Chrome Sync. Downloaded files are not removed by uninstalling.
Operational telemetry and uninstall feedback
Stored in Alibaba Cloud Log Service under rolling logstore retention settings and deleted automatically when that configured period expires. We do not retain operational logs indefinitely.
License, entitlement, order, and subscription records
Stored in WATools.ai backend systems for as long as needed to provide and audit the license/subscription, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and satisfy tax, accounting, and legal obligations, then deleted or anonymized where permitted.
Payment-provider records
Retained by the payment provider under its own privacy policy and legal obligations.
Support and privacy requests
Retained until the request is resolved and for a reasonable period needed to document the response, then deleted or anonymized unless law requires longer retention.
9. International data transfers
Our service providers and infrastructure can process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, we use contractual and organizational safeguards for international transfers.
10. Security
WA Download keeps exported WhatsApp content on your device rather than uploading the export files to our servers.
WATools.ai-operated APIs, checkout pages, and telemetry endpoints use HTTPS/TLS for data in transit.
Access to backend records and operational logs is limited to authorized personnel with a business need.
We use access controls and retention limits appropriate to the type of data. No storage or transmission method is completely secure.
11. Your choices and privacy rights
Choose which contacts, groups, chats, date ranges, attachments, or Status items to export or download.
Change or clear saved selections and preferences in the Extension, clear Extension data in Chrome, or uninstall WA Download. Delete downloaded files separately from your device.
Decline optional host access. The feature requiring that access may be unavailable.
Use your browser and cookie controls for Google Analytics on watools.ai.
Request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability where applicable by emailing [email protected]. Include enough information, such as the relevant WhatsApp number or installation ID, for us to locate the record. We may need to verify your identity and can retain information where legally required.
12. Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure
WA Download's use and transfer of information received from Chrome APIs and WhatsApp Web is limited to providing or improving the Extension's disclosed single purpose and user-facing features.
We do not sell user data or transfer it for personalized, retargeted, or interest-based advertising.
We do not use user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
We do not allow humans to read exported WhatsApp content because that content is not uploaded to us. Human access to other user data is limited to cases where you give specific consent for support, access is necessary for security or abuse investigation, access is required by law, or the data has been aggregated and anonymized for internal operations.
We transfer user data only when necessary to provide or improve WA Download, for security or abuse prevention, to comply with law, or as part of a corporate transaction subject to applicable consent and safeguards.
13. Legal bases
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process data to perform our contract with you (providing the features and paid entitlement you request), for our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving WA Download, with consent where required, and to comply with legal obligations.
14. Children's privacy
WA Download is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where required.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when WA Download's features, data practices, or legal requirements change. We will post the revised policy at this URL and update the date above. If a change materially affects data practices, we will provide any additional notice or consent required by law or Chrome Web Store policy.
